The fiords of this region have two different layers of water in them that don't mix. While the first few metres are fresh water, the bottom layer is salt water from the sea. It is difficult for light to penetrate this deeper layer so little seen deep sea flora grow in relatively shallow water. This allows divers unrivalled deep sea sights in very little depth.
