Walks

Fiordland is regarded by many to be the walking capital of the world.

Te Anau Hotel and Villas is a great place to base yourself before or after enjoying one of the famous walks of the region - the Milford Track, the Routeburn, Hollyford, Kepler Track and many more.

Visit the Active New Zealand website www.activenewzealand.com or Department of Conservation website www.doc.govt.nz for more information on the tracks, weather and conditions and various guided walk options.

Milford Track
Considered to be one of the best walking experiences in the world, the Milford Track is a beautiful four day walk.

You don't need to be a Himalayan mountain yak to enjoy the Milford track. Guided walks are available tailored to suit most ages and fitness levels.  Options extend from independent free walking, right up to fully catered trips where your personal belongings are relocated by helicopter to your next night's accommodation for you. Either way, numbers are limited to access the tracks so be sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Hint: If your time is limited then you could always opt for a Milford Track day walk instead.

Hollyford Track
For the more seasoned tramper the Hollyford Track follows the Hollyford Valley past both lakes and mountain views to the Tasman Sea where hikers are often greeted by seals and penguins.

The Hollyford route is an eight day return trip (four days to Martins Bay and then four days back again).

Alternatively you can arrange a float plane pick up from Martins Bay or short cut the return trip with an exhilarating jet boat ride back up the river.
