The MacKinnon room at Distinction Te Anau Hotel and Villas is proud to serve you some of the South Island of New Zealand's most delicious venison.
The venison industry is well-established in Te Anau with approximately 60,000 deer farmed on 100 farms in the Te Anau area.
The farming industry began 25 years ago. Helicopters captured live deer from the Fiordland National Park and put them in to a farming environment.
Today's farms are overseen by a strict quality control system. Venison meat is exported to mainly E.U. countries such as Germany, Italy, France and the Netherlands.
Venison is highly regarded as a health food with little or no fat and low levels of cholesterol.
